In English, we aim to:
English is a powerful, inspirational subject that opens doors to many careers. Students are able to experience the world around them, as well as exploring the past and different versions of the future through various forms of literature. In English, students strive to be the best they can be and embrace the opportunities offered to them to explore a wide range of fiction and non-fiction. This allows them to be analytical, creative, daring and confident.
Within English, we study a broad range of texts including: myths and legends in Year 7; Great Expectations in Year 8; Noughts and Crosses in Year 9; An Inspector Calls in Year 10; The Merchant of Venice in Year 11 and 1984, Hamlet and War Horse at A-level… to name a few! It is an exciting, engaging and inspiring subject that students enjoy.

In preparation for the upcoming mocks, all year 11 students have been guided through six key quotations from A Christmas Carol. We have been looking at the motif of fire, and all students who have attended form time intervention should now know the 6 quotes and matching analysis for this. Now all students have been shown how to revise, and what to say about the quotes, they should be working through the next six quotes at home with the same process. To help students revise, the below PowerPoint has been prepared for them to use at home. Students are encouraged to work through the slides once a week in the same way they have been taught in form. It will really help improve their chance of success with their English Literature GCSE. In the upcoming weeks, students will be studying six key quotations from The Merchant of Venice.
