Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy retains IQM flagship status for inclusive practice
We are incredibly proud to share that Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy has once again been recognised as a national leader in inclusive education, having successfully retained our prestigious Flagship School Status from the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM).
Following a rigorous review in July, IQM praised our academy for its “superb inclusive practice” and “strong culture and understanding of the links between emotional regulation, behaviour, and attitudes to learning.” This recognition highlights our continued commitment to ensuring every student—especially those with complex needs—can thrive both personally and academically.

Our pioneering use of the THRIVE Approach was singled out for particular praise. This programme supports students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and has led to remarkable outcomes, including improved attendance and a reduction in exclusions. In some cases, individual students have increased their attendance from 50% to an impressive 91%.
Inclusion is embedded throughout every aspect of life at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy. From teachers adapting lessons to meet individual needs, to governors championing equity and access, every member of our community plays a vital role. Our students also take the lead as THRIVE Ambassadors, supporting their peers with emotional regulation, building resilience, and helping younger students transition smoothly into academy life.
We are also proud of the work being done to strengthen early intervention pathways, embed trauma-informed practice, and enhance our speech and language provision. These strategies are having a real impact – helping to close gaps in attainment and engagement, particularly for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Zaina Porschke, Vice Principal for Inclusion, said: “To be part of such a small group of schools to have achieved and retained IQM Flagship Status really highlights what’s so special about Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy. Inclusion isn’t just something we do – it’s who we are. Every member of our community plays a part in making education accessible, supportive and aspirational for all learners. It’s a privilege to work with students who show such resilience and ambition every day.”
Kathryn Evans, Principal, added: “We’re incredibly proud to once again be recognised as an IQM Flagship School. This award reflects the dedication and belief of our staff, students and families in making our academy a place where everyone feels supported and able to succeed. Whether through tailored teaching, strong pastoral care, or our high expectations for all learners, inclusion underpins everything we do – and it’s making a real difference to young people’s lives.”
